How It All Began

Frank Stafford was born in 1880 and was a young man of twenty-seven when the words “Boy Scout” came into the English language. In the early part of the century he was a farmer in Canada and after the Great War he returned to England and to Nottingham where he engaged in business as a Lace Manufacturer.

On 10th November 1927, when he was forty-seven years of age, Frank Stafford called a meeting in Friary Schoolroom (The Hall) and this is when and where it all started. Twelve boys attended that meeting, and this was the birth of the 3rd West Bridgford (Friary) Scout Group (registered number 8219).
